Before the “Dune” trailer: Stream David Lynch’s version for free – and another “Dune” highlight at the same time
Sci-Fi fans are looking forward to the cinema release of “Dune” in December 2020 with great excitement. The first trailer should be available soon. Until then, we recommend you two previous films on the subject of “Dune”, which can now be streamed for free.
Frank Herbert’s “Dune” novels are sci-fi classics that Hollywood has been thinking about since the first volume “The Desert Planet” was published in the mid-1960s. In 2020, Denis Villeneuve (“Blade Runner 2049”) will be making the film version of “Dune” that will finally satisfy fans. But there are already two big attempts (not the only ones) for which we can now give you free streaming tips.
Stream “Jodorowsky’s Dune” for free on ARTE
The all-round director Alejandro Jodorowsky, a genius behind crazy films like “El Topo”, “The Holy Mountain” and later “Santa Sangre”, was planning a film adaptation in the 1970s that never saw the light of day, but still that Shaped the film world.
In 2013, “Jodorowsky’s Dune” was created, a documentary worth seeing about a supposed masterpiece that will never exist. Thanks to ARTE, you can stream this documentary for free up to and including September 7, 2020 9 movies.

Stream David Lynch’s “Dune” for free on ARTE
Almost ten years after Jodorowsky, another director madman desperate over “Dune”: David Lynch (“Twin Peaks”, “The Elephant Man”) was persuaded to take over a Hollywood film. Dispute was actually inevitable.
And that’s how it happened: “Dune – The Desert Planet” was snatched from Lynch at some point, shortened by the producer to two hours suitable for cinema, and it’s pretty confused. A long TV version followed later, but it does not correspond to Lynch’s ideas either and from which he even had his name deleted.
Lynch’s “Dune” movie is definitely interesting, thanks to ARTE there is the uncut theatrical version (there were a few additional cuts in German cinemas at the time, which were also reflected in later TV broadcasts). But hurry: David Lynch’s “Dune” can only be streamed for free until August 15th!

As I said, “Dune” by Denis Villeneuve will be in the cinema on December 17, 2020. A first trailer is supposed to appear shortly.

And by the way, it is always worth taking a look beyond “Dune” at the ARTE media library, where, for example, there are currently numerous pearls for friends of Japanese (e.g. “The Hidden Fortress of Akira Kurosawa and“ Blind Woman’s Curse ”by Teruo Ishii) and the French (with “My Night at Maud”, “Claire’s Knee”, “The Duchess of Langeais” and “The Beautiful Troublemaker” four classics by the legends Eric Rohmer and Jacques Rivette) film.
